How to use ChatGPT – A Beginner’s Guide to Using this Amazing AI Language Model

if you haven’t heard of ChatGPT in the last few months, have you been hiding under a rock?

I started seeing information appearing on Twitter around 6 months ago with people getting excited about the AI language model and in the last few weeks, it seems to have exploded!

If you’re wondering what it is and how to use ChatGPT, you’ve come to the right place! I have been extremely impressed by ChatGPT’s capabilities, it has been a game changer here on Be Social With Media.

From helping me to come up with ideas, write Instagram captions and provide outlines for my blogs, I no longer find myself staring at a screen with complete content block. I head straight over to ChatGPT and before I know it, I’ve written several blog posts.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT, or Generative Pretrained Transformer 3, is a state-of-the-art AI language model developed by OpenAI. It has the ability to generate human-like text, translate between languages, summarize long articles, and more.

At its core, ChatGPT is a neural network that has been pre-trained on a massive corpus of text from the internet. This training data includes everything from books and articles to social media posts and chat logs. By analyzing this data, ChatGPT is able to learn the patterns and structure of language, allowing it to generate coherent and contextually relevant text.

Now, this might all sound rather futuristic and probably scary! But AI language has been with us for a while now, such as –

  • Siri and Alexa
  • Google translate
  • Grammarly
  • Chatbots
  • Autocorrect and predictive text

AI language models are already integrated into many aspects of daily life, and their use is likely to continue to grow as the technology becomes more advanced and accessible.

How to use ChatGPT as an influencer, blogger or small business?

The capabilities of ChatGPT are huge and can have a massive impact on the way you do things, they already have for me. Having to consistently keep up with social media, writing captions and thinking of Story ideas, working out the new trends and audio and creating content for your websites can be mentally draining.

Content Creation Services

Whether you’re a blogger, marketer, or social media influencer, ChatGPT can be an invaluable tool for generating high-quality content. With its ability to generate human-like text and adapt to different writing styles and contexts, ChatGPT can help you create engaging and informative content quickly and easily.

It can also help you with tasks such as keyword research, writing Instagram captions, coming up with alt text for your images and prompting you ideas for your blog. There is no better software for content creation!

Customer service

Many businesses now use chatbots powered by AI language models like ChatGPT to provide customer service and support. As a beginner, you can use ChatGPT to create your own chatbot for your business or website, providing a seamless and efficient customer service experience for your users.

Personal Productivity

This is where ChatGPT helps me the most! I often struggle with productivity and procrastinating is my worst habit. It has helped me to automate repetitive tasks, generate ideas and provide inspiration for creative projects.

For example, you can use ChatGPT to generate social media captions, write product descriptions, or even brainstorm ideas for a new blog post or marketing campaign. It’s your very own content creation service.

Fun and entertainment

Use ChatGPT as software for content creation like Instagram stories

Finally, ChatGPT can simply be a fun and entertaining tool to experiment with, allowing you to generate jokes, stories, and other forms of creative expression. I have used it to help me create memes and Story polls on Instagram!

Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced writer, ChatGPT can help you tap into your creative side and explore new ideas and possibilities.

How does it work?

This sounds great! Erm… how does it work?

It’s quite mind-boggling really. We are used to typing things into Google and getting extremely good answers to our queries, but this seems next level. It’s like being in a very long and boring brainstorming session in a stuffy and lacklustre office meeting room, without the stuffy, lacklustre, long and boring connotations.

I just ask ChatGPT to come up with a 10-step strategy for my content-creating goals this week and it answers me straight away? Yes.

OpenAI logo

OpenAI, the research laboratory of researchers and engineers behind ChatGPT (and founded by a group of investors, one being Elon Musk!), has created an advanced AI language model that uses machine learning algorithms to generate human-like responses to natural language prompts.

This includes –

  • Language Model training – trained on a large corpus of text data from books, articles and written content
  • Contextural Analysis – ChatBPT can analyse the context of the message to understand the meaning behind the words
  • Response Generation – The response is designed to be natural-sounding and coherent, similar to how a human would respond
  • Iterative Learning – the more we interact with ChatGPT, the more it continues to learn and improve its responses based on user feedback.

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use ChatGPT

  1. To access ChatGPT, visit the OpenAI website at This is the official website of the organization that developed ChatGPT.
  2. Once on the OpenAI website, navigate to the ChatGPT page by clicking on the “Try” link at the top of the page.
  3. To use ChatGPT, you will need to create an account. Click on the “Sign Up” button and follow the instructions to create your account.
  4. After creating your account, you should be good to go! It will open up a New chat with a prompt box at the bottom. OpenAI offers a range of plans, from free to Plus, depending on your needs. So far, I have only needed the free plan but as the platform gets more users, will probably upgrade.
  5. Start sending prompts to ChatGPT. To generate responses from ChatGPT, type a prompt in the bottom box and press return. The prompt can be any text input, such as a question or a statement.
  6. After sending a prompt to ChatGPT, the API will generate a response and return it to you. The response will be in the form of text and will be generated based on the input prompt and the language patterns learned by ChatGPT during training.

Getting the Most Out of ChatGPT

When I first created an account on ChatGPT, I took one look at it, wasn’t sure what to make of it and decided to leave it for another day. It is such a simple setup; I couldn’t quite get my head around it and thought there was much more to it which confused me no end.

But it really is that simple.

Type what information you are looking for and you’ll be amazed! It took me a week or two to fully understand how to get the most out of ChatGPT so here are some tips and tricks for using it more effectively.

Provide clear and concise prompts

To get the best possible responses from ChatGPT, it’s important to provide clear and concise prompts. This means avoiding overly complex, ambiguous or convoluted questions and statements that may be difficult for ChatGPT to understand.

Use relevant and specific prompts

Another key to getting effective responses from ChatGPT is to use specific prompts. For example, if you’re using ChatGPT as software for content creation to help with a blog post, try to provide prompts that are related to the specific topic or theme of the post.

I tend to break all my blogs down into sections and then ask ChatGPT to provide me with ideas around that section.

Use context

ChatGPT relies on context to generate responses, so providing additional context can help guide its output.

If you’re asking ChatGPT a question about a specific person, provide some additional context about that person (e.g. their occupation, location, or interests) to help ChatGPT generate a more relevant response.

Use multiple prompts

If you’re not getting the responses you’re looking for from ChatGPT, try using multiple prompts to refine your results.

For example, if you’re trying to generate content for a marketing campaign, you might try using different prompts that focus on different aspects of the campaign (e.g. the target audience, the messaging, or the call to action). You need to guide ChatGPT to get the specific answer you’re looking for!

Train ChatGPT yourself!

ChatGPT allows users to fine-tune their models by training them on specific data sets or inputs. This can be a powerful way to improve the accuracy and relevance of responses.

If you’re using ChatGPT to generate responses for customer service inquiries, you might train it on a data set of previous customer interactions to improve its understanding of common questions and issues.

Most importantly, check the information!

Once you’ve received responses from ChatGPT, it’s important to evaluate and refine them to ensure that they’re accurate and useful. This might involve checking the responses against other sources, refining the prompts to provide more specific guidance, or retraining the model with new data.

Examples :

One of the things I find extremely tedious about SEO for blogging is adding in all the alt text to images. I now use ChatGPT to come up with alt text for me, here is one example –

I typed in “palm trees pool beach sea dubai” for the below image and it came back with –

A scenic view of palm trees surrounding a swimming pool and a beach overlooking the Gulf Sea in Dubai”.

Now, I know this isn’t ground breaking stuff, but when you’ve got 100s of images to alt text, this made the process so much speedier and less tedious!

This is a very simple task for ChatGPT, you really can ask it to come up with anything!

The future of ChatGPT

ChatGPT is already a powerful AI language model tool that has the potential to revolutionise the way we interact with technology.

Areas that have been mentioned where ChatGPT could be further developed are:

  • Ability to understand the context and infer meaning from user input.
  • Analyze the context of a conversation and use that information to generate more accurate and helpful responses.
  • Its ability to handle multi-modal input, such as voice and text.
  • Handle more complex and specialized domains, such as legal or medical terminology.

If you’re interested in exploring the capabilities of ChatGPT AI language model for yourself, there’s never been a better time to get started.

With its user-friendly interface and powerful natural language processing capabilities, ChatGPT is an ideal tool for anyone who wants to communicate more effectively with technology, use it as a content creation service or get out of brainstorming mental block.

To get started with ChatGPT, simply navigate to the ChatGPT website and begin typing your questions or statements into the chat window. As you type, ChatGPT will analyse your input and generate a response that is tailored to your specific needs.

One of the best things about ChatGPT is its ability to learn from your input over time. As you use the tool more frequently, it will become more attuned to your specific language and communication style, allowing it to generate even more accurate and helpful responses.
